Fish Fry News

Well attended fish fry! The November 18th 2011 fish fry was another big success. Hosted in the Transfiguration Church PLC, plenty of hungry fish lovers came out to be served their choice of baked or fried fish with all the fixings for only $9. Many of the council members were on hand to work the fish fry as well as several of the Ladies Auxiliary members. The fish fry has become a well oiled machine and seems to be operating without any problems now. Talks about next years fish fry events continue as the council plans the dates for the future fish frys. See the picture page for more pictures of the fish fry.

Blood Drive Debacle Turns Out O.k.

This weekends blood drive turned out to be quite a debacle due to communication errors within LifeSource’s ranks. The blood drive was scheduled to run Saturday November 12th from 4pm-9pm and then on Sunday from 8am-2pm. Early Saturday afternoon Lifesource representatives started making phone calls informing donors that the Sunday drive was cancelled, due to a employee that called in sick, but Saturdays drive was still on. Upon arriving at the O.W.C. Saturday, it became apparent that there was a scheduling error because religious ed was using the facility to provide leaf raking chores for the Wauconda community and the religious ed students were getting community service hours in return for handling it. Preparations to clean up the O.W.C. began quickly so LifeSource could get their equipment in and setup. A sudden phone call from the LifeSource regional manager revealed that there was an error in reporting that the Sunday drive had been cancelled and in fact it was the Saturday drive that was cancelled. At this point Ed McGinty showed up to help out and became quite amused after hearing the situation. Ed and I continued to help clean up the O.W.C. anyway and setup as best as we could for Sundays drive.

The drive on Sunday was going to be interesting, as we had no  idea how many donors were going to show up. LifeSource had previously cancelled all the Sunday appointments and made a strong effort to reschedule them for Saturday, alas, after realizing their mistake they had to cancel all of their Saturday appointments late Saturday and attempt to inform the donors that they once again had made a mistake and now needed to attend the Sunday drive instead. We therefor had no idea what kind of turnout we were going to have! When all was said and done the drive on Sunday went well and we unofficially collected 31 blood units. Not too shabby for such a mess!

The KofC wants to thank all of the donors for coming out and donating on Sunday and apologizes on behalf of LifeSource for the mix up and any inconvenience it may have caused anyone. Your donations are needed so much and are appreciated more than you can imagine. Recipients of your donations can rest assured that they indeed have a second chance at life in some cases because of your generosity. The kofC also wish to extend a very special Thank You to the recently formed Ladies Auxiliary that spent a great deal of time helping out with recruiting for the blood drive and with the hospitality during the blood drive. The work of the Ladies Auxiliary does not go unnoticed.

This was our last blood drive for the year 2011. Thank you donors for a great year! When we get the blood drive schedule for 2012 all set it will be posted on this website.
